Silico Research is headed by a team of experienced executives.
Emmett Power, Chief Executive Officer. Emmett Power originally qualified as a Barrister in leading commercial chambers in London, during which he won the prestigious Band Scholarship in Commercial Law. After qualifying as a barrister he worked for a number of first-tier investment banks in the City of London including SBC Investment Banking, now part of the Union Bank of Switzerland. Emmett Power subsequently acted as Chief Executive Officer for a number of publishing, technology and consulting firms before launching Silico Research Ltd in 1999. He has a particular expertise in programming, systems analysis, computer technology and the structuring and management of partnerships and alliances based upon intellectual property. Emmett Power is a member of the Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals.
Dr Lara Marks, Senior Research Director. Dr Marks is an academic with a particular expertise in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Dr Marks received her doctorate from Oxford University. During her academic career she taught and held research positions at a number of leading leading universities, including The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Cambridge University and Imperial College. Dr Marks has received research grants from, amongst other bodies, the Food and Drug Administration, the Leverhume Trust, the Nuffield Foundation, the Rockerfeller Foundation, the Smithsonian Institute and the Wellcome Trust. Dr Marks has authored a number of papers and books on the industry and her work has been favourably reviewed in leading journals including the British Medical Journal, the New York Review of Books and Nature. As well as conducting her Silico-related research projects, Dr Marks is currently working with the Chemical Heritage Foundation on a biography of Dr Hubert Schoemaker, pioneer of the biotechnology industry and co-founder of Centocor. Dr Marks is also currently working with Professor Thomas Stossel of the Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and the Association of University Technology Managers on a survey of the effect of conflict of interest regulations governing university-based researchers.
